Practice Thursday will be at the Plex from 4:30 to 6:00. This is so we can watch and cheer on Bishop Dwenger in the SAC championship meet and also get our practice in between races. If you can’t get there quite on time you should have no problem finding us running around somewhere. Thanks.

Dear Team and Family Members:

If any Cardegles would like to join us in a fundraiser for the Luekemia and Lymphoma Society feel free to come out by 7pm on Sunday to the Lutheran Hospital Campus on West Jefferson.

You may feel free to gather donations or make a donation to the Society (checks made to The Luekemia and Lymphoma Society) at: (I've attached a couple PDF's of the fundraising Envelopes) and I know I passed out the info late and I apologize since I haven't been able to escape work until about 9pm all this week. (PDF Front Side 3.4MB) | (PDF Back Side 4.6MB)

As many of you know Matt Fackler a 4 Year Cardegle Alumni is battling Luekemia right now. Even as he is now Freshman at Dwenger, we still always love to show support for our former team members. The Letter that was passed out to the team was from Nancy Vinson (Matt's Mom) and was a letter to all the current members of the "Never Give Up Team" in honor of Matthew and others as they are working together to help find a cure for cancer.

More info about the walk is located at:

TIP OF THE DAY: A good reason to start your running now before the formal practices start is to gradually build up your strength. Building gradually helps prevent those nagging overuse injuries. Just 20-30 minutes easy is all you need. And for beginners run/walk until it's all running. If you want to see how far you run try this link. http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/ Just enter your zip, zoom in and then click on draw map on the left. Then click on your start point on the map followed by points on your course.

TRAINING:  It's time to start running now to be ready for the season. It only takes a small amount of time and dedication  to get into shape.  Just running 4 or 5 times a week should do it.  If you're a beginner start out just running 15-20 minutes per run the first week. Don't worry about the speed or distance, just enjoy.  During the second, third week etc,  increase each run by a few minutes.  By the first week of practice you'll be surprised what you can do.  Remember to be careful when running. Always watch out for the traffic!
SHOES:  Good running shoes are important. They don't have to be expensive but they should fit well and be comfortable. The "Running Company" is a great place to shop for shoes. Their staff is the most knowledgeable in helping you get the right shoe. Be sure to tell them you're a middle school CC runner as they may have discounts.
ROAD RACES: Check the Run Indiana link for some fun local road races to participate in.

Click on the coaches link to ask any of us a question.

Tentative date for the start of practice is Monday August 7th.   Make sure you have your school physical!" Check RunIndiana for area road races this summer.

Cardegles Cross Country 2005

07-30-2005
What do you need or do for the first day of practice?

  1. Running shoes - It will make practice a lot easier than trying to run in basketball shoes.
  2. Your Physical Form! (you can't practice without it)
  3. Dress appropriately (It is likely to be hot so wear some shorts and a t-shirt)
  4. Bring a water bottle to practice. We will leave them at the start when we run, but when we get back you can have a drink. There are also water fountains at practice
  5. Your parents should be ready to pick you up by 6pm.
  6. If you have any medical conditions such as asthma, let the coaches know and bring your inhalers.
  7. Have fun and remember we are a team. The first few days may seem tough, but once you get in the shape it will seem easy. Encourage those who are struggling the first few days and we will all be stronger in the end. In cross country everyone can participate and help the team even if you don't win the race!

Once again we look forward to another fun and competitive season. If you have any questions let one of the coaches know and we will try to answer them. Keep up the good work in school too, we had a great year last year as a large portion of our runners made honor roll. It would be great to see the whole team make it.

Thanks and see you August 8th at Shoaff.

07-15-2005
First practice is Monday, August 8th, at 5:00 p.m. Shoaff Park by the baseball field. Come prepared to run. Boys/Girls grades 5 through 8 must have a school physical to participate. If you have questions call Dan Kaufman, 485-5241. Prepare by starting your running now.
